Flourish is a suicide prevention program designed by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh for teens who have had negative online interactions. Flourish was developed in association with dedicated help and feedback from diverse teens nationwide. Flourish is for teens ages 12-17. The program has three main components (coping skills, resources, and stories) that each build a different skill: help-seeking, distress tolerance, and problem-solving. We designed Flourish to be operated by a friendly, automated character named Sprout. Spot Sprout around the website!
What are these skills?
Help seeking: Sprout helps us think through who to talk to after we experience something stressful and how to begin those conversations based on the stories from teens who have had similar experiences.
Distress tolerance: Sprout guides teens with information on how to get through stressful events with a library of coping skills in website, video, and audio formats.
Problem-solving: Sprout provides education and resources on how to understand and respond to online negativity.
